BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
Biloxi Police officers called to the scene of a domestic disturbance Wednesday night found one of the worst possible situations: a man outside the apartment wielding a knife, and a dead woman inside.
It happened around 5:30pm at the Seashore Oaks Senior Housing Community. Investigators said when the officers arrived, they were confronted by a man with a knife, later identified as Correy James Dartez, 53. Officers ordered Dartez to drop the knife, and after a brief struggle he was taken into custody.
Just inside the apartment, officers found his wife, Victoria Lynn Dartez, 52, lying motionless. They tried to resuscitate her, but were unsuccessful. They believe she died of suffocation.
Correy Dartez was charged with murder and aggravated assault on a police officer. Justice Court Judge Fountain set a bond of $1 million on the murder charge and $250,000 on the aggravated assault on a police officer charge.
Dartez was booked in at the Biloxi Police Department and later transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that could help is urged to call the Biloxi Police Department at (228) 392-0641 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
