Scattered light rain and sleet showers this morning

Posted: Updated:

A large pool of very cold air aloft is moving across East Texas this morning. This is causing a few showers to develop due to the difference in temperatures from the surface to about 15,000'.

Temperatures are cold enough in the lower levels of the atmosphere for some of the precipitation to reach the ground in the form of what officially is called graupel but is called sleet by many. There will be no travel issues as surface temperatures are well above freezing. These showers will move out of the area during the early afternoon hours but it will remain chilly.

Strong northwesterly winds will produce wind chills in the upper 40s most of the day, feeling about 30 degrees colder than yesterday.
