The Graveline Bayou Causeway opens in Jackson County today. The $2.8 million causeway provides an all-weather access route for the St. Andrews Community.
The cause way is replacing Fountainbleu Road, which would flood if severe weather hit the area. The road also caused problems for evacuations during storms. The flood-prone area left many residents with no way in and no way out.
The new bridge will also eliminate a 3 1/2 mile detour residents and emergency crews have been forced to make since construction began a year ago.
The public is invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony this morning at 10 a.m. Gulf Park Estates and Volunteer fire trucks will then lead the first cars across the bridge.
