No. 10 LSU Softball predicted second in SEC West

From LSU Sports

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 10 LSU softball team was predicted to finish second in the Southeastern Conference Western Division Monday as chosen by the league coaches in the conference's annual preseason poll.

Points for the poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 basis for the SEC's Western Division and on a 1-2-3-4-5-6 basis for the SEC's Eastern Division. Coaches weren't allowed to vote for their own team when submitting their ballots.

The Tigers totaled 28 points behind defending national champion and preseason No. 1 Alabama. The Crimson Tide, winners of the last three SEC regular season titles, also received eight of the possible 13 first place votes for overall champion in this season's preseason poll. Rounding out the SEC West was Texas A&M (31 points), Arkansas (51 points), Mississippi State (56 points), Auburn (63 points) and Ole Miss (74 points).

Tennessee was tabbed to repeat as the SEC's Eastern Division champion and garnered the remaining five votes for overall champion. Missouri (30 points), Georgia (34 points) and Florida (38 points) were separated by only eight total points to finish two-three-four, respectively. Kentucky (58 points), the host of the 2013 SEC Tournament, along with South Carolina (65 points) completed the eastern side.

LSU is 11 days away from 2013 opening weekend where the Tigers will play host to Hampton, No. 22 North Carolina, Purdue and Tulsa as part of the Tiger Classic from February 8-10.

Season tickets can be purchased for $75 at www.LSUtix.net for a marquee home schedule that features 15 games against 2012 NCAA Tournament participants. The Tigers also will welcome defending national champion Alabama along with Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina for three-game SEC series.
