JONES COUNTY (WDAM) -

An accident along a natural gas pipeline in Jones County forced several families to evacuate early Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 5:30 Monday morning at the intersection of Highway 590 and Pittman Road in Jones County. A truck struck the natural gas pipeline causing a leak.

Captain Brian Davidson with the Jones County Sheriff's Departments says all roads near the accident, including Pittman Road and Highway 590 are closed until further notice.

The initial gas leak forced the evacuation of 8-10 homes in the area. Although the gas leak has been stopped, the residents will not be allowed return to their homes until the truck is removed from the pipeline.

Wrecker services are on the scene and are working to remove the truck.

An evacuation center has been set up at the Howard Technology Park for the displaced residents.
