The Grande Caribe set sail from New Orleans and will continue on until it reaches St. Petersburg. Crew members said it's the stops along the way that makes these small cruises stand out.

Socks, the dog reportedly burned this week by his owner, has died. The suspect told deputies he torched the dog because he "wanted to help the dog go to heaven."
BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

From a dollars and cents perspective, 2012 was a relatively flat year for South Mississippi casinos. That information comes from the Mississippi Tax Commission.

Tax commissioners just released the casino industry's final revenue numbers for last year. Here's what we learned. Coast casinos grossed $1.094 billion.  That was just below what the slot machines and gaming tables raked in a year ago ($1.096 billion).

Part of the 2012 drop can be blamed on Hurricane Isaac.  The industry had to close its doors for a few days as the storm lashed at South Mississippi.

One new casino opened in 2012.  Margaritaville made its debut on Biloxi's back bay last spring.  After a sluggish start, Margaritaville replaced its original management team, hoping an infusion of new talent would jumpstart the Jimmy Buffett-themed resort.

The last time yearly revenues were this low was in 2006, when the industry was just recovering from Katrina.  You have to go back to 1999 to see an uninterrupted year with revenue totals below the $1.094 billion mark.
