Pay tribute to the beauty of the orchid. Thousands of different orchids will be on display at the 33rd Annual Gulf Coast Orchid Show and plant sale. The event offers raffles and an orchid competition. There's going to be lot of cattleya which are the beautiful orchids typically used in corsages. In addition, there will be bare root orchids, in bloom orchids, warm growers, cold growers and some that grow in home light. If you don't know anything about orchids, vendors or orchid club members can walk you through the growing process. The show is at Singing River Mall in front of JC Penney.

Sixteen mostly local high school basketball teams are playing in the 19th Annual Hoopsfest on Saturday. These top-ranked high school basketball teams will compete for trophies and bragging rights. The three point hot shot and slam dunk competition will take place in between the seventh and eighth games. Concession stands will be open. Come out and support your local and regional teams. Head over to downtown Ocean Springs on Saturday for the 37th Annual Ocean Springs Elks Mardi Gras parade. This year's theme is Salute to the Military. The 37th Annual Ocean Springs Elks Mardi Gras parade is said to be much larger than last year. Organizers said they've received several entries already. The parade starts at Front Beach and goes to Porter Avenue. Then turns left on Washington Avenue then right on Government Street.

In its third year, Pass Christian turns into a nirvana with the oyster festival. The two day event brings you a mixture of activities that are certain to entertain the entire family. Watch oyster shucking and take part in oyster eating contests. There are also games, rides, a fishing rodeo and a variety of food vendors. You'll enjoy the live performances from 90 Degrees West, the Starz Band and Suthum Touch . Plus you'll see the crowning of the Pearl of the Pass.

For those of you interested in making some headway with your 2013 resolutions, run in the 3rd Annual Long Beach Carnival Classic Half Marathon and 5k. All ages are welcome to take part in the run. The scenic run is Saturday along Highway 90 from Long Beach to Pass Christian. Support teams will be set up throughout the course along with drinks and restrooms. All runners get a commemorative t-shirt. Plus if you take part in the 1/2 marathon you'll get a finishers medal.

Second Liners Mardi Gras Club parade
The Second Liners Mardi Gras Club will hold their parade in Biloxi. Bring your family and friends and be ready for the bead action. This year's theme is: Adventures in Paradise. Floats are expected to follow the theme with lots of color. Some of the floats will be throwing specialty beads that feature the Secondliners' theme. Bands from MGCCC, Concordia College, Kenton High School, Hollandale-Simmons and Moss Point are on tap to perform. The Grand Marshal is former Democratic member of the Mississippi House of Representatives Frances Fredericks.
