Some Jackson County supervisors don't want to see people carrying guns in parks and other public areas despite a new gun law in the state. As WLOX has reported, starting July 1st Mississippians will be able to openly carry a gun and other weapons with or without a permit.   Some Jackson county leaders want to create a local ordinance to keep weapons in check.
JACKSON, MS (AP/WLOX) -
Working well into the early hours Thursday, Mississippi House members approved a bill that would expand charter schools in the state.  It took until nearly 1 am Thursday morning, but House members voted 64-55 to pass House Bill 369.

Supporters of the bill say the long debate was worth a measure they believe will set off a "revolution" in Mississippi's education system. But they acknowledge the bill still has obstacles before it reaches Governor Phil Bryant's desk.

The bill will now go back to the Senate, who passed a broader bill last week.  The two chambers will have to agree on a version of the bill before it is sent to Governor Bryant.
