BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
"Tom would be proud." Those were the words of Arlene Wall moments after being sworn in as Biloxi's new Ward Five council member Tuesday afternoon.
Mayor A.J. Holloway appointed Mrs. Wall to fill the unexpired term of her late husband, Tom. Mr. Wall passed away earlier this month. He had spent nearly 20 years on the Biloxi City Council. His wife Arlene plans to serve the remainder of his term, which ends this summer.
After being sworn in, she received a standing ovation.
"I hope to do a very good job for the city of Biloxi, for everybody in ward five, just like Tom did," Arlene Wall said. "He just loved the city of Biloxi and he was so proud to be council person and he always tried to be protective of all the citizens."
As to whether she may choose to run for the seat in June, Mrs. Wall said right now is too soon to speculate on that.
