Last day to file national mortgage settlement claims

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Friday is the last day for qualified applicants to file claims for the $25 billion national mortgage settlement. The settlement arose after numerous allegations of mortgage fraud through the top five mortgage lenders in the country.

Through the agreement Mississippi received just over $47 million in homeowner relief. Mississippians who qualify for a portion of the money could receive between $800 and $2,500. However, there's no guarantee borrowers will receive money unless they file a claim by Friday, January 18, 2013. Keep in mind that this settlement only pertains to homeowners who lost their home to foreclosure between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011.

If you think you qualify for the settlement you can call the settlement administrator at 1-866-430-8358 or by email at administrator@nationalmortgagesettlement.com. You can also find more information at www.nationalmortgagesettlement.com.

Also, if you don't qualify for any of the settlement money you can receive free help from the Mississippi Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Consortium created by the Attorney General's Office. You can reach the Consortium by calling 1-866-530-9572. More information is available at www.msmortgagesettlement.com and www.agjimhood.com.
