Ocean Springs looks to the future

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

Reflecting on the past and moving to the future. That was the goal of Ocean Springs State of the City address Thursday night.

Residents and business owners say they're proud to be a part of Ocean Springs.

As they gathered at Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center, Mayor Connie Moran highlighted the achievements of the city over the past year.

Mayor Moran said 2012 was a year of ribbon cuttings.

The city opened a new police station, sports complex, high school, and much more.

But the evening was about looking to the future, as well.

"I would say that Ocean Springs is the jewel of the Gulf Coast. Every where I go around the state, other mayors tell me how much they love Ocean Springs. All of our festivals. Our quality of life here. So they want to be like us and emulation is really the best form of flattery," said Mayor Moran.

In 2013, Mayor Moran said Ocean Springs hopes to improve Government Street, build a new storm shelter that will double as a gym, along with many other projects.
