Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream of equality for all and his vision was not just for African Americans but for all Americans. He preached tolerance, equal rights and to love your neighbors. His dream of equality has paved the way for the world that we live in today. A world where the American dream of being able to do and be whatever you want to be is possible for anyone who has the opportunity, the drive and the desire.
Dr. King set a standard for tolerance. And we all should take time to remember him and recognize his contributions that made America a greater country.
In 1983 our Government commemorated Dr. King and his life of service by approving a law designating his birthday a federal holiday.
On Dr. Martin Luther King Day you can honor him by telling his message to younger generations and describing how the world is now compared to what it may have been if Dr. King had never stepped up, spoken out and committed his life to fighting injustice. You can also pay tribute by following his example of service by volunteering in your community on MLK day or throughout the year.
