Biloxi City Council moves forward after loss

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Tuesday, the Biloxi City Council met for the first time since the passing of Councilman Tom Wall. Wall passed away last week after a long battle with cancer. The pain of losing him is still fresh, but the council members are moving on with the business of the city.

The meeting started with a moment of silence.

"We're all going to miss Tom. Great man, loved Biloxi to death. Loved his family," Councilman Clark Griffith said. "I'm really going to miss him. I've never attended a meeting without Tom Wall. I decided I wasn't going to do that today, so I brought him with me."

"He was much like a father figure to me, in more than one way," Councilman Ed Gimmell said. "He gave me a lot of good advice in the business world. We had a lot of great conversations and he was quite an inspiration to me."

The sad mood was surprisingly lifted, however, with an announcement by Mayor AJ Holloway.

"At next week's council meeting, I'll be nominating Arlene Wall, Tom's wife, to replace him for the remainder of his term," Holloway said.

That statement was followed by a round of applause from the audience. During the meeting it was said that Tom would want the council to continue in its obligation to serve the city. So while it may hurt that he's no longer physically present, there's no doubt that he will be a part of the City of Biloxi.

CSX is facing another million dollar lawsuit, but it's not connected to the recent deadly crash at the Main Street crossing in Biloxi. It's actually from the accident a month prior involving a Pepsi truck that was stuck on the tracks and hit by a CSX train.
