NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) -

A man who took in six children after they escaped from Sandy Hook Elementary School is being harassed.

Gene Rosen told Eyewitness News he's getting attacked by conspiracy theorists who say the mass shooting never happened.

On Dec. 14, Adam Lanza, 20, shot and killed his mother as she slept in her bed. He then traveled the few miles to Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he proceeded to shoot out a security window, make his way into the building and kill 20 children and six adults.

On the day of the mass shooting, six of the kids had made it to Rosen's house. Rosen said he took care of the kids until their parents picked them up.

He spoke to Eyewitness News and several news outlets following the shooting and described a student's reaction.

He was crying uncontrollably and he started saying, 'We can't go back to the school,'" Rosen said. "'We don't have a teacher.'"

Some people have taken to the internet and are going so far as to say Rosen was a hired, paid crisis actor.

Conspiracy theorists have put up blogs and YouTube videos making outrageous claims that Rosen is a Satanist.  Rosen said he is overwhelmed by the anonymous phone calls from people calling him a liar and other horrible names.

"I want a moral pushback in some way and shame them," Rosen told Eyewitness News. "Because they should be shamed."

However, Rosen said he can deal with the harassment. However, he told Eyewitness News that families of the victims and survivors are also being harassed and that's what's really upsetting him.

"I can deal with this but I'm thinking about the families of the perished and the families of the survivors," he told Eyewitness News. "Their grief is so unimaginable, and to put a layer on top of that is just immoral."

Rosen, who has been in contact with authorities about the harassment, told Eyewitness News while he understands free speech, these people are crossing the line.

"It's one thing for people to do this in their living room," he said. "It's another thing to start interfering with people's lives."
