BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
A Harrison County Sheriff's Deputy ended his shift Friday night on the other side of the jailbars after being arrested by his fellow deputies.
Matthew Christopher Cooper, 27, is charged with aggravated domestic assault.
Cooper's wife, who is also a sheriff's deputy, told Biloxi Police the fight happened just before 5pm at Lexington Apartments. She told investigators her husband grabbed her by the throat, held her down and choked her. She said Cooper was dressed in his uniform and duty belt at the time of the assault. She said he also drew his service weapon, a Glock 22, and pointed it at her before leaving the apartment. After he was gone, she left and reported the incident to the Biloxi Police Department.
Cooper was located and arrested at the Harrison County Jail by his fellow deputies. He was then taken to the Biloxi Police Department for processing, then brought back to the jail, this time as an inmate. Cooper was being held at the jail pending an initial appearance. His bond is set for $50,000.
This investigation is ongoing.
