Jeff's Blog: Day 3 at Miss America

LAS VEGAS (WLOX) -

'Exhilarated, but also exhausted,' might be the best way to describe Marie Wicks so far at the Miss America Pageant here in Las Vegas.

Wednesday night I was in the audience as Marie competed in the talent preliminary. Although she did not win, Marie was brilliant playing a classical piano piece.

Tonight, in the last preliminary night, Marie will be asked an on stage question. I did have an opportunity to chat briefly with Marie early Wednesday afternoon. She said she was surprised at the pace of the week. With a chuckle, she said she already had worn four different outfits that day.

Despite the pace, Marie said she is having a wonderful time and has enjoyed getting to know the other contestants.

The Mississippi contingent, who includes Marie's entire family, has been here to support her all week. Marie told me, it is hard to put into words how much that support means to her.

Today, we find out if Marie wins the Miss America's Quality of Life award. It includes a $10,000 scholarship.

Stay with WLOX.com for the latest information on Marie at Miss America. The pageant airs Saturday night on WLOX/ABC.

As Ja-Naya Thompson's short life was celebrated, there were a lot of tears and hugs as hundreds of people paid their respects during the visitation and the funeral service. People told me they went to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for two reasons, to mourn the loss of five year old Ja-Naya and to show support to the parents who must now face life without their beloved child.More >>
