BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Major renovations are underway to turn the Isle Casino in Biloxi into the new Golden Nugget. Once construction work is complete, the casino will look much like the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

Right now, change can be spotted in a few of the hotel rooms. The old rooms with parrot comforters are being transformed with a new modern look.

"We are moving fast to bring a new product to the customers in Biloxi," Golden Nugget VP of Marketing Amy Chasey said. "We want people to see the new rooms. We want them to get excited for the changes that are coming this year."

A new addition will be built outside the existing casino to bring all the slots on the same floor. This will clear out the area used before Hurricane Katrina for meetings and conventions.

"We think it will be good to bring it back, good for all of Biloxi to bring in more businesses and more people into the market," Chasey said.

There will also be new restaurants, including Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and Morton's Steakhouse, a comedy club and several retail stores to lure visitors to Biloxi.

"The Golden Nugget has a property in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Laughlin and there are cross-marketing opportunities from those casinos," Interim General Manager Chris Latil said. "Guests are going to want to come down to this property and go fishing and golfing."

The changes are already getting the employees and loyal customers excited. Latil said and he expects the word will spread soon.

"Our business has been steady here over the past year, but we obviously expect a lot more business," Latil said.

Chasey said, "I like to say, 'Out with the old, in with the Gold.'"

The Golden Nugget sign should go up by Memorial Day and construction is expected to be completed by February of next year.
