Twelfth night starts Carnival season

Posted: Updated:

The Twelfth night officially ended Christmas at Beauvoir Sunday evening. It was the inaugural year for a promising event.

The reigning king and queen of Gulf Coast Carnival rode up on a float to the plantation.

They made their way to the front of Jefferson Davis' house with their dukes and duchesses and passed out beads.

The royalty extinguished the lights adorning the plantation.

That officially ended the holiday day season. Exactly twelve nights after Christmas, hence the name, Twelfth night.

And as the court left the plantation and headed to the Mardi Gras Museum they made it official that Mardi Gras season is now in the air.
