OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -
Christine Kozlowski and Marie Wicks have a lot in common.
Marie is the reigning Miss Mississippi, while Christine won the title back in 2008. Both are from South Mississippi, and they are friends. Of course, they are also both beautiful and talented young ladies.
But, their fathers also have something in common. Just ask Peoples Bank President Chevis Swetman.
"This is a most unusual situation," Swetman told WLOX News. "I don't think I have ever heard of this before."
Here's what Swetman is talking about: The fathers of both ladies work at Swetman's bank.
"I think it is just a case of the beauties and the bankers," Swetman said with a big smile on his face.
As you might imagine, both Kozlowski and Wicks have been comparing notes about what to expect in Las Vegas during pageant week.
"I was just so nervous," Kozlowski said. "Nervous, but so proud of my daughter."
So now, it is Tom Wicks's turn to be nervous. He always seems very composed, but his reaction to his daughter winning Miss Mississippi might be a clue as to how he will react on pageant week.
"When they announced her name, I can barely remember anything else," Wicks said about this summer's Miss Mississippi pageant.
"Everything after that was people hugging me and shaking my hand."
Wicks also took a moment to talk about how proud he is of Marie, as well as his and wife Caroline's other children. Daughter Lizzy was the valedictorian at Ocean Springs High last year. Their son, Robert, is in his residency at Wake Forest.
Tom Wicks will be joining his wife and other family members in Las Vegas in a few days.
Before ending our interview, we had to ask bank president Swetman about a wager he made with a bank employee years ago. Swetman told her that if the Saints ever won the Super Bowl, he would buy her tickets to the game, no matter where it takes place. Swetman made good on that promise.
Now, we wondered if he would buy Marie some Super Bowl tickets if she wins Miss America?
After getting quite a chuckle out of our question, Swetman said he would. But there is only one problem: he insisted it would only be one ticket.
Hopefully, Marie will get to take him up on that promise.
