Smoke alarms help Pascagoula family escape burning home

Posted: Updated:

Miller Power credits smoke detectors for alerting him and his family of the fire that destroyed his home on Hague Street in Pascagoula early Thursday morning.

Power said he, his wife, son and grandchild were all asleep when the fire started. When the smoke detectors went off, the family got out of the home.

City Fire Inspector Todd McClung told WLOX News when firefighters arrived, flames had already burned through the roof. It took crews about out an hour to extinguish the blaze.

An investigation is underway to determine what caused the fire. No one was injured.
