Woman run over by own car in grocery store parking lot

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

A Bossier City woman is in the hospital after being run over by her own car at an Airline Drive grocery store.

It happened outside the Super 1 Foods in the 1800 block of Airline Drive Wednesday morning.
Based on information police have gathered so far, it appears the woman had pulled up to the grocery store and left her grandchildren in the car with it running intending to run in quickly.

The 3-year-old in the car is believed to have climbed out of her car seat and into the front seat. The 7-year-old in the car tried to turn the car off, but instead put it in reverse.

When the car started rolling backwards, the woman tried to get back in the car and was knocked down when she opened the door. That's when the car rolled over her.

She was taken to LSU Medical Center with what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries. Police have identified her as Lisa Collins Harris, 48.

The car continued to roll until it came to a stop against a cart corral in the grocery store parking lot.

Police are still investigating the incident, but say it's an example of why it's not a good idea to leave small children in a vehicle with it running. "Take your children with you when you go in the store," says Bossier City Police Department spokesman Mark Natale. "Never leave small children in vehicles while they're running."
