A single vehicle crash in Attala County Tuesday afternoon killed a family pet and sent two to the hospital after the car crashed at a popular accident site.

MedStat EMS, The Mississippi Highway Patrol, Attala Sheriff's Department, Attala Fire along with Zama and Providence Volunteers responded to the crash on Highway 19 South at 1:23 p.m.

First responders arrived on scene to find an accident at a very well known location for car crashes. Emergency personnel found one vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree causing heavy damage to the driver side of the car.

The two passengers were traveling north on Hwy 19 with their two canine companions. The driver and passenger were transported by private vehicle to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

One of the two family pets was killed in the accident. Emergency personnel have been to this area many times before after a heavy rain. Emergency responders explain that water will stand in the highway in the north bound lane and has caused many prior accidents after vehicles hydroplane causing the driver to lose  control.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will be in charge of the investigation.
