STONE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
From ham, to stuffing, to delicious desserts, many people have their traditional Christmas dinner. But, not everyone is able to enjoy such a feast. That's where the organization Caring and Sharing comes in.
This Stone County group aims to provide many with a warm dinner and remind people what the season is all about.
Families, volunteers and friends gathered at Stone County Fairgrounds to enjoy the feast. "I'm so glad y'all could make and I hope you're enjoying it," said organizer Geralda McLendon.
People like the Colburns made that day worthwhile. "Wow, that's a lot of stuff. That's a lot," said Deborah Colburn. The family of six came with hungry stomachs and grateful hearts. "Things get hard and tough and to watch them eat cereal. This is so nice and wonderful and I want them to know how much it was appreciated," Amanda Colburn said.
The day meant a lot to people on both sides of the table.
"Well you know we're fortunate and blessed and this is a real small way to share it," said volunteer Vick Watts.
McLendon said Caring and Sharing started the effort four years ago. "First year it was a little over 100 and then last year we had over 400 plus," said McLendon.
Carryout meals were delivered to those who couldn't make it. "I had people call and say they don't have the gas money. So we said, 'we'll bring it to you,'" said McLendon.
As tears were shed and stomachs filled, it was clear the message behind the plates were the ingredients that brightened many people's Christmas. "Make sure they know how much it's appreciated and grateful and it's just so wonderful," said Colburn.
