BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
Tornado warnings are now posted for Pearl River County until 4:00 and for Stone County until 4:15 this afternoon.
The National Weather Service has put all of South Mississippi under a tornado watch until 8:00 tonight.
The nasty weather is part of a strong cold front that's racing across the United States.
For much of Christmas Day, residents along the gulf coast have braced for the possibility of tornadoes and powerful thunderstorms. Quarter-sized hail was reported early Tuesday in western Louisiana, and the weather service said a tornado watch was in effect over parts of southeast and south-central Louisiana until the afternoon.
Forecasters say as this cold front pushes through the coast, it could pack winds in excess of 70 miles per hour.
