BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Right now many people are wrapped up in getting things ready for Christmas Day. While the atmosphere may be jolly for some, there are still many people grieving right now.

"Its the holiday time and everybody needs to come together. As a neighbor, friend, even if you don't know each other, we need to come together because these poor innocents won't get to spend Christmas with their families anymore," organizer Jen Fayard said.

To bring everyone together, the idea to have a candlelight vigil on the Biloxi Town Green was formed. It was put together by three coast mothers who say their hearts go out to the victims' families in Connecticut.

"We just want them to know that we're here and that the world feels their pain. This is our way of saying goodbye. There aren't really any words that come to my mind right now," Fayard said.

"Christmas is not about gifts. It's about others and it's about the love for others. What better way to show that? Even though we're miles apart, we can still be there for them in spirit," Alicia Capps said.

That warm spirit of love and comfort seemed to transcend throughout the crowd. The ladies say they put the event together on a whim, but were pleasantly surprised by the positive response they got from the community.

"It's amazing. We started with a small little idea between three ladies. We decided to put it on Facebook and we decided to invite everybody. It blew up. Within one day there were over 100 people that said they were coming. That means a lot to all three of us," Fayard said.
