HATTIESBURG, MS -
The St. Tammany Parish inmate who escaped Sunday morning was
arrested later that night in Hattiesburg, according to Hattiesburg Police
Department's Lt. Jon Traxler.
Twenty-six-year-old Anthony Lance Alexius was located at a
Hattiesburg hotel, according to Traxler.
He was taken to the Forrest County Jail and later turned
over to the St. Tammany Parish deputies for extradition back to Louisiana.
Authorities were searching St. Tammany Parish for Alexius,
who reportedly walked away from his work detail.
According to St.
Tammany Parish Sheriff's Department Alexius was assigned to work in the St.
Tammany Parish jail kitchen when he escaped. Authorities said he was picked up by an
unidentified person around 11:15 Sunday morning.
Alexius, who has been
sentenced to less than five years in jail for narcotics related offenses, was
considered an inmate worker because he met the qualifications set by the
sheriff's department.
He reportedly has no violent criminal arrests in his
background.
Alexius has been charged with simple escape, which carries
up to five additional years following his current sentence.
