Tragedy causes local church to redirect their funds

The youth group at Biloxi First United Methodist church had a "Breakfast with Santa" at Half Shell Oyster House in Biloxi Saturday morning.

Originally, the proceeds from the event were going to a mission trip. However, in the light of the recent tragedy in Connecticut, they decided to redirect the money to go to Shady Hook School, where so many people lost their lives.

More than 200 people showed up to breakfast. This breakfast inspired a new cause.

Beauvoir and Seashore District United Methodist Church will lead a candlelight vigil to pray for the victims of the Connecticut shooting.

The 30 minute vigil begins Sunday at 5 p.m. on the east side of the property at Beauvior.

The Seashore District will be accepting donations. The group is inviting everyone to come join in prayer.
