PEARL RIVER COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Two Pearl River County women are accused of stealing more than $117,000 from the bank where they worked.

Court records said Vonetta Jordan and Debra Mitchell took the money from Union Planters Bank in Picayune for their personal use. The thefts allegedly took place over several months between April 2004 to February 2005. Jordan worked as the head teller at the bank; Mitchell was a teller.

According to the court filings, on at least eleven different occasions, Mitchell took money from the bank vault and put it in her purse or gave it to another employee working with her. Records indicate the fraudulent transactions took place every few weeks, and steadily increased in amounts. In all, she's accused of taking $117,883.25.

Mitchell is accused of depositing stolen cash into her own account, though the court documents did not specify how much money she is accused of depositing into her personal account.

Prosecutors contend the two also altered bank records to conceal the thefts.

Jordan is scheduled to make an initial appearance in federal court Tuesday afternoon. Mitchell's attorney has filed notice she intends to plead guilty at hearing set for December 18.
