D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

Drivers who frequent the Sangani Boulevard and Highway 67 area in D'iberville will see some closures this week as crews begin the next phase of work to ease congestion at that busy intersection.

Each night this week, crews will be putting in beams for the new flyover overpass. Because of the delicate work, lanes will have to be closed for 15 to 30 minute intervals.

"What we're doing is setting the beams across the highway," explained Project Engineer Chuck Starita. "They are 85 foot long concrete beams. They're extremely heavy. It takes two cranes to pick them up and move them and they're going to be sitting directly over where traffic will be traveling. If one of those things happened to fall, it could be fatal and we're just not going to take that chance on our public."

Starita says his team will do the best they can to keep traffic flowing, but drivers will definitely experience delays. Monday and Tuesday nights, the work will be in the southbound lanes. Wednesday and Thursday it will take place in the northbound lanes.

The first shutdown began Monday night. For the rest of the week, the closures should begin around 7pm and last until 6am. The overall work is expected to be completed sometime in August.
