According to reliable sources, Southern Miss will name Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken as the Golden Eagles new head football coach on Tuesday or Wednesday. He replaces Ellis Johnson who was fired after guiding Southern Miss to an 0-12 record this past season.
Monken helped develop a high-octane offense, helping Oklahoma State finish among the top five offensive teams in the nation in 2011 and 2012. Before spending the last two seasons at Oklahoma State, Monken coached two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL. He also coached at Notre Dame and LSU.
Monken reportedly will begin working at Southern Miss immediately with National Signing day the first Wednesday in February, so he'll be hitting the recruiting trail and will not coach the Cowboys' offense in Oklahoma State's bowl game.
