HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) -

Two men were arrested after authorities were called out to a possible house fire Tuesday and a meth lab was found inside the home.

Christopher Yawn, 32, of Hammond and Jeremiah Foster, 30, were taken into custody Wednesday on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said it was called out to a home in the 14000 block of Martino Lane in Hammond Tuesday because it was reported the house was possibly on fire.

Responding deputies discovered the home was not on fire, but quickly realized some type of incident had happened. They said they believe the "incident" resulted from someone cooking meth.

They didn't give any details describing the "incident." However, they did report smelling a strong chemical odor consistent with meth being cooked.

The deputies said while they were combing the scene for clues they saw a man in the kitchen crawling on his belly, apparently trying to sneak by without being seen. The man was later identified as Foster.

Narcotics agents then got a search warrant to get a better look inside. They reported finding a one pot meth lab in the master bedroom. Yawn, who owns the home, was also in the room.

Investigators said they also found many hypodermic needles and all of the items used to make meth on the stove in the kitchen.

They added a shotgun and handgun were found in the bedroom where the active meth lab was set up.

Yawn and Foster were booked into the parish jail.
