BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
Floats roll down South Mississippi streets. Thousands of revelers look toward those floats and scream "throw me something mister". Seconds later, bead, trinkets and MoonPies fill the air. Mardi Gras is a special time along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. And according to the Southeast Tourism Society, it's one of the region's must see attractions in the first quarter of 2013.
The Southeast Tourism Society just released its top 20 events in 12 southeastern states.
Carnival on the Coast made that list. So did the seventh annual BBQ Throwdown and Festival in D'Iberville. That tasty treat is February 23. The Southeast Tourism Society considers the annual Grillin' on the Green another top event in 2013. That party is March 16 on Biloxi's Town Green.
Two other Mississippi events are in the top 20. The Mississippi Blues Marathon is January 5 in Jackson. And a spring pilgrimage in Columbus begins the last week of March.
