4th ranked Ocean Springs has ripped off 7-0 record on soccer field

Head coach Jeff French lost a big nucleus of his Greyhounds soccer team that was ranked as high as number two in the nation by Maxpreps last season. That hasn't stopped Ocean Springs from ripping off 7 consecutive wins to open the 2012 prep season.

French said, "We're playing more as a team. Last couple of years we had a lot of talent and often times we had been criticized for not being able to play as a team. This year the fact that we lost so many seniors from last year plus starters, I think we lost 10 seniors and 7 starters, so this year we have to come together and no one person can just do it."

Eli Troutman is back and has taken over a leadership role. The senior who has been in a starting role since his freshman season has already netted 10 goals.@

Troutman stated, "Right now I'm just going with the flow. I'm trying to play as a team player and trying to progress as the day goes on."

Coach French called Troutman a leader, "He's been leading us offensively the last couple of years and this being his senior year and us losing about 60 percent of our goals from last year, he's really had to step up."

Jack Wilson gives Ocean Springs a double-threat offensively, netting 8 goals so far this season.

According to Troutman, the 4th ranked Greyhounds don't feel any pressure?

The Ocean Springs defense has been rock solid, giving up only 3 goals in 7 games. Left defender Kevin Quist says despite losing so many starters from last season, other players are taking up the slack.

Quist said, "We did lose a nucleus of our players from last year but we actually kept a really good core defense. We have two juniors and two seniors playing in our defensive back line and we work really strong together. We've been playing for a long time so I think we're going to have a successful defensive season."
