TORBERT, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said a man was killed when he was thrown from his truck after turning in front of a car Thursday evening.

The Louisiana State Police reported Ronnie Sproles, 56, of Oscar died in the two-vehicle crash on US 190 at LA 978 in Torbert in Pointe Coupee Parish around 5:30 p.m.

Troopers said their investigation showed Sproles was headed east on US 190 in a 1996 Toyota Tacoma when he made a left turn through the guardrail.

They added as he did so, a 2007 Dodge Charger was traveling west on US 190 and hit the pickup on the passenger side before it could cross both lanes.

According to LSP, Sproles was ejected and died as a result of the injuries he suffered.

Officials said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The other driver had moderate injuries as a result of the wreck.

He was properly buckled at the time of the accident.

No charges have been filed.

Troopers said they do not yet know if alcohol or any other substance played a role in the crash.

Toxicology samples from both drivers were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation into the deadly wreck is ongoing.
