BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The owner of a Denham Springs used car dealership was sentenced Thursday for rolling back the miles on his cars for sale.
Beau Michael Guidry bought high-mileage cars off eBay and at auctions in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi, then rolled back as many as 147,000 miles before re-selling the cars at Affordable Imports of Denham Springs or eBay.
Guidry was sentenced to 20 months in prison and must pay $72,805.51 in restitution to his victims. When released from prison, he will be on supervised release for a year, during which he cannot be involved in selling cars.
Prosecutors say Guidry rolled back the mileage on cars that were over 10 years old because he wasn't required to sign a disclosure, certifying the mileage on the vehicles as accurate.
Altering an odometer with intent to change the mileage violates federal law.
