ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -
The Ascension Parish
School System has secured a spot as a finalist to get millions of dollars in
grant money. The district is the only one in the entire state to make the cut
in what's called the race to the top.
The U.S. Department of
Education is awarding nearly $400 million in grant money to be split between 15
to 25 school districts in the country. Out of the 1,200 schools that applied,
only 60 made the cut.
"Our district has always
been a front runner in terms of implementing best practices and being on the
cutting edge of technology. So I just
really feel like our parish has done everything they can to prepare our
students to compete in a global economy," said Paisley Morgan, Assistant
Principal at St. Amant Primary.
Morgan is a product of the
Ascension Parish School System. Coming up on WAFB 9News at 6, find out what the
district plans to do with grant money if they win.
