Ole Miss QB takes home Conerly Trophy

JACKSON, MS (WDAM) -

The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame honored Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace with the top honor in the state Tuesday night. The sophomore earned the C-Spire Wireless Conerly Trophy, given annually to the state's top collegiate football player.

"It's something special. A lot of people look at it as an individual award, but it's definitely a team award," said Wallace after the ceremony. On the season, he completed nearly 65 percent of his passes for 2,843 yards and 19 touchdowns, along with a 144 efficiency rating.

The former Junior College National Offensive Player of the Year beat out eight nominees, including Southern Miss defensive end Jamie Collins, who registered ten solo sacks, 19 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles; good for second, first, and second in Conference USA respectively.

"It's something I know my teammates are feeling really proud for," said Wallace, "I couldn't be prouder of my teammates and how fortunate I was to play with them this year." Wallace also beat out Mississippi State cornerback Johnathan Banks, Alcorn State offensive lineman Cornelius Brown, Belhaven cornerback Isiah Wiley, Delta State offensive tackle Kendall Hunter, Jackson State receiver Rico Richardson, Millsaps quarterback Keith Villafranco, and Mississippi Valley State defensive tackle Robert Simpson.
