BAYOU CORNE, LA (WAFB) -
Officials with the Assumption Parish Police Jury say the giant Louisiana sinkhole in Bayou Corne "burped" around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
A few trees in the southwest corner of the sinkhole fell in during the event and vegetative debris and hydrocarbons came up from below the sinkhole.
Texas-Brine removed all crews from the sinkhole and is checking the boom surrounding the area to make sure everything is intact.
It has been more than five months since gas bubbles were discovered on Bayou Corne and more than three months since the giant sinkhole forced local and state agencies to issue an evacuation for nearby residents.
The Assumption Parish, LA sinkhole continues to grow. The ground opened up on August 3, 2012 and residents were evacuated from their homes. The sinkhole, or slurry, is consuming land and trees. Many images are from the Assumption Parish Police Jury. Click here to see the photos from August until now. More >>
