Police searching for suspect in Jefferson St. murder

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead early Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened just after midnight at his home in the 4800 block of Jefferson Street. Police say 28-year-old Shermaine Matthews was found lying on the floor inside his home with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooter is believed to be a black male and was last seen running away from the house in an unknown direction.

Police do not know the motive for the shooting at this time.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
