JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A 15 year old student at East Central High School has died following a single vehicle accident Monday night in Jackson County.

Sheriff Mike Byrd says Jacob Scott Williams was driving a pick-up truck west on Lily Orchard Road shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, when he lost control and left the road. The truck struck two trees, and the teenager died at the scene.

The sheriff said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Byrd also says speed and a rain-soaked road probably played a role in the accident.
