GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
On the corner of 20th Street and Thornton Avenue, roads are being paved and a sidewalk expansion project is underway. But, residents said the work is botched.
They said the city is narrowing an already narrow road, and not taking the drainage issues into account.
Residents said they've made several attempts to speak with city council members months before construction started, but they were blown off.
Now, they're doing everything they can to halt the construction.
"They're going to cut our streets smaller than what they're supposed to be. This is the size of an alley. It should have been 22 feet in width. It's 18 feet in width. They put the sidewalks on the wrong side of the road. It should have been on the other side. The businesses can't even park," said Gulfport resident Sandra Wyche.
