    The picture of a George County dog set on fire is disturbing. Authorities say the circumstances surrounding how fire consumed the dog are shocking. According to George County Sheriff Dean Howell, 20-year-old
    Socks, the dog reportedly burned this week by his owner, has died. That word comes from a George County Sheriff's deputy.  Socks succumbed to injuries suffered after 20-year-old Brandon Pierce allegedly set his dog on fire Tuesday night. The suspect told deputies he torched the dog because he "wanted to help the dog go to heaven."
JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Mississippi Forestry Commission said three wildfires spread through Jackson County this weekend.

All of them are clear; however, will not be deemed 100% contained until rain hits the burned areas.

The Moss Point wildfire burned 196 acres. It is 90% contained.

The wildfire in Northeast Jackson County burned 39 acres. It 95% contained.

A 10 acre fire in Vancleave is 95% contained.

Smoke is still an issue throughout Jackson County and drivers are being warned to use extreme caution.

Smoke signs have been posted on I-10 near exit 69.

Mississippi Forestry Commission and the Sandhill Crane Wildlife Refuge are working to keep the area safe.
