MHP reports one fatality during holiday travel period

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One person has died on state highways this holiday weekend, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Troopers have written more than 6,100 tickets during the travel period, which began Wednesday.

Thirty two people have been injured in the nearly 140 wrecks MHP has worked.

The fatality occurred in the Greenwood district.

Highway patrolmen have made 168 DUI arrests.

The holiday travel period ends midnight Sunday.
