A historic season for all the wrong reasons finally came to an end at the Liberty Bowl on Saturday. Southern Miss, a year removed from a 12-2 conference championship finish, fell to Memphis 42-24, and finished the 2012 campaign without a win.
It's the first time since 1925 a Golden Eagle team has finished winless.
Southern Miss led 3-0 in the first quarter, thanks to a Cory Acosta field goal, but allowed 21 points in both the second and third quarters to dig themselves into a 42-10 hole they couldn't dig themselves out of.
Jalen Richard caught the first touchdown of the night for Southern Miss, and Quentin Pierce and Tyre Bracken followed suit with late touchdowns in the fourth quarter with the game well out of reach. The Tigers' offense gashed the Eagle defense for 275 rushing yards, and overall, Memphis out gained Southern Miss 437 total yards to 288.
