Visit the most 'Christmasy' place in America

(WMC-TV) - If you are looking for a way to get out of town for a few days while getting the full holiday experience, how about a quick drive to Nashville's Opryland Resort?

For 29 years, people from all over the country have come to Nashville's iconic Gaylord Opryland Resort to celebrate a Country Christmas.

In fact, the resort has been dubbed America's favorite Christmas destination and one of the top ten places to catch up with Santa.

"There's so many things to do here. Walks through the hotel lobby as a family, having a great meal at one of our restaurants, just great family time and great family memories," said Gaylord Opryland Resort General Manager Pete Weien.

Whether you come and stay in one of their over 2,800 rooms or simply walk around their festively decorated facility, staff members guarantee the very best Christmas experience.

"Our dinner show is new this year with Lorrie Morgan. She is a country music star, a member of the Grand Ole Opry. We're lucky to have her for her Lorrie Morgan Enchanted Christmas dinner and show," said Weien.

It takes around six months for Opryland staff to hang all the garland, hang all the lights, and put out all the decorations to celebrate Christmas. They say there are around 2 million lights and enough garland to stretch from Nashville to Memphis.

In addition to the beautiful decorations, inside and out, there is also the Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring the Rockettes and an ice show, featuring DreamWorks' Shrek the Halls.

So this year, be one of the 1 million guests that visit and get the ultimate Country Christmas.

"Gaylord Opryland is voted the most Christmasy place in America and we want people to come out and see what a big and beautiful resort this is, but particularly at this time of year with all the wonderful things we have for the holidays," said Weien.

Street is accused of stabbing Frankie Fairley to death in 2014 and stealing her van. Officers say Street drove that van to D'Iberville where he reportedly robbed a convenience store. Fairley's body was found in a field not far from her Hurley home. The discovery was one day after family reported her missing.

The Pascagoula Panthers open the 2017 football season on the road. In fact, their first three games are road contests. That scheduling quirk may give field turf crews just enough time to get War Memorial Stadium ready for the September 8 home opener. The wet weather in South Mississippi is placing quite the burden on construction workers as they attempt to complete stadium renovations. The project was suppose to be finished before the beginning of Pascagoula's football season.
