Black Friday shoppers excited

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Tomorrow is not just the day after Thanksgiving, it's also "Black Friday" one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

It's a time when millions of shoppers travel near and far to stores, looking for some awesome bargains.

We were curious about the number of residents here on the Mississippi Coast who are die hard Black Friday shoppers. Some of the responses we got were quite interesting.

A few just chuckled when we asked if they would be in line at 2 a.m. Others told us they most certainly will be in line. In fact some said maybe even earlier than 2 a.m., if it meant saving a lot of money.

Coast resident Sue Bolin was one of those.

"We've got it marked on the calendar, yes sir," she said.

Bolin actually makes this a family event. She plans on bringing her kids with her. With total sincerity, she said it would not be hard to get the kids out of bed at 2 a.m., just to go shopping.

When we said that is rather hard to believe, she chuckled.

"We did it last year, and this year will be no different," Bolin added.

What about those who have to work on Black Friday? You can count Alexis Nelson in that group of folks. Alexis actually works two jobs at Edgewater Mall.

That means she will be at the mall working from 2 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Do the math and that adds up to a 19 hour work day Friday.

With a twinkle in her eye, Alexis said she plans to drink a lot of coffee. She added, when her head finally hits the pillow that night, she will be asleep within moments.

Most years, Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year, but now, some national chain stores plan to open Thanksgiving night.

But is that really such a good idea?

Ken and Christina Ball said you won't find them anywhere near a store on Thanksgiving night.

"No way, that's a family holiday," Ken said.

Some of the shoppers we spoke with thought it was a terrible idea, but others were wholeheartedly in favor of it.

Wherever you plan to be Thanksgiving night and on Black Friday, make sure you have a smile on your face.
