This is the perfect time of year to be outdoors and head to the beach to walk, jog or bike along the Harrison County boardwalk. This time last year we called for the completion of Harrison County's boardwalk. But still, only half of the 26 mile beachfront has the nice, wide boardwalk.
The cost to build the last 13 miles of boardwalk is around $27 million. Harrison County and the Mississippi Department of Transportation shared the cost of building what is already in place. Hopefully the county and MDOT can find ways to complete this project.
Maybe some of the millions of dollars our coast governments should receive from the BP settlement could fund the project.
We suggest Harrison County and MDOT come up with a five year plan to build a few additional miles of boardwalk each year to complete the project.
Our beachfront is already a tourist draw, but think how much more of a draw it would be for exercise enthusiasts if the boardwalk stretched for 26 miles. Let's finish the boardwalk project.
