WLOX Editorial: A day to give thanks

Posted: Updated:

Today is Thanksgiving. A time set aside to reflect on our lives and what we are thankful for. In South Mississippi we have a lot of reasons to be thankful.

One, we live in an area where people really care about their neighbors. Coast residents take time to help neighbors in need of a helping hand. Our community is a place where newcomers are welcomed.

We are blessed to have thousands of servicemen and women who move to our area and become part of our community.

We live in an area where there is a diverse ethnic makeup. Whether you are Vietnamese, Hispanic, white or African American you are welcome and have a chance to make a difference.

Our beautiful coastline is something else we can be thankful for. Hundreds of live oak trees dot the landscape and make a beautiful canopy.

Finally as this hurricane season is nearing an end we need to be remindful of the damage that Hurricane Isaac inflicted on some of our neighbors and friends. Let us be thankful for all the volunteers who have helped us clean up the mess from Hurricane Isaac and begin the rebuilding process.

No doubt you have many other reasons to celebrate this holiday. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
