State police say two separate crashes have left two people dead four others injured.

The first crash happened just after midnight near the intersection of LA 67 and Noel Thomas Lane.  Troopers say Derrick Daniel, 38, was traveling south when a pick-up truck driven by Reggie Gross, 36, pulled into his path. Their vehicles collided and the pick-up ran off the road and overturned several times.  Daniel's vehicle ran off the road and struck a culvert before stopping on the east side of the road.  Gross and Daniel were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and only received minor injuries.  Daniel's front seat passenger, Kenneth Taylor, 33, received fatal injuries in the crash and died on the scene.

Gross submitted to a breath alcohol test and registered a blood alcohol level that was above the state's legal limit of 0.08%.  He has been booked into the East Feliciana Parish Jail on charges of Vehicular Homicide and Failure to Yield.  Impairment is also suspected for Daniel.  His toxicology results pending.

The second crash happened just after 2:30 am on LA 3125, north of LA 362 in St. James Parish.  An investigation revealed that Leonard Green, 46, was driving north on LA 3125 while engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with his front seat passenger.  During the argument the passenger, Tracy Young, 43, grabbed the steering wheel causing the vehicle to travel off the road.  The car overturned several times before coming to rest.

Green sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.  Young and a rear seat passenger,  Allen Jacque, 57, received moderate to severe injuries and were taken to a local hospital.  All three occupants were wearing seatbelts but all are suspected of impairment at the time of the crash.  Charges are expected to be filed against Young for actions resulting in the crash.  The investigation is ongoing.
