DMR investigates shrimp boats in industrial canal

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

WLOX News received a call from a property owner along Harrison County's Industrial canal who wanted to know why two shrimp boats were tied up on the banks of the canal.

We called the director of the Dept. of Marine Resources, and he sent a team to investigate whether the boats could be considered a hazard to navigation.

The DMR dealt with a similar issue after Hurricane Katrina, and it took almost four years to finally remove the vessels.

DMR's Marine Patrol contacted the owners of the boats. A spokeswoman told us the owners will remove the vessels by this weekend.
